Born in 1937 in Finland. Lives in Forssa.
Painter, performer and author, director of the Beaux-Art Academy
in Helsinki,
he also settles expositions. Takalo-Eskola is known most of all
for his
"Swamp Academy" which main idea is to explore the
dangerous of swamps.
People go naked to these swamps one can see in Finland landscape
and roll in the mud and water, without excluding the danger of
their minds.
The swamp is as deep as our spirit, as deep as our uncounscious
life.
Nudity is essential in the Swamp Academy, but it is a matter
of fact
that the relation with the body isn't the same in both countries.
But out of the Academy, Juhani reveals a great derision in his
performances,
changing current situation into real ceremonies,
such as "Money without exchange value" in the Sydney
Biennale,
or walking through town naked, like in Odense,
followed by 2 men in tuxedo handing the Finnish flag
and miming the attitudes of statues or people going by.
Titles: "Money Factory";"longing for eternal directions".
